As I write this NaNoWriMo, or national Novel Writing Month to give it its full moniker, finished yesterday. At the end of November many people are celebrating, whilst others have not quite met the word count goal. Those who did reach the 50,000 word goal are celebrated as winners, which can make others feel like they have failed. I am urging everyone who did NaNoWriMo to put it in to context. This is one month out of a whole year. Whatever the word count you achieved it is a reason to celebrate. You are that many words closer to completing your contract.
I am urging you to look at what you have achieved this year, not just as a writer, but as a person. As the title of the blog suggests we are so much more than writers. However, start with what you have achieved as a writer. Let us know in the comments your achievements and successes this year. Whether you consider them to be small or large, they are still a reason to celebrate. Let us know and we can cheer for you. We are often good at running ourselves down but forget to say what we are good at. This blog is a chance to change that.
I will leave you to find a pen and paper to look at those successes. For today, be nice to yourself. Treat yourself well and remember you matter. You matter to your family, friends, readers, and most importantly God.
