In the Midst of the Muddle

I'm standing in today for Deborah Jenkins the regular blogger in this slot. I was happy to help out, especially since I missed my own slot. This is a chance to redeem myself.

I write this the day after the US Elections 2016. For many reasons everyone is focussed on what the future will bring. Before you panic and think this is a political post, it is not. Enough has been written about the elections, and this is not the forum for rehashing what has been said. It is a post about writing. This is, after all, a writers blog.

Over the past several months it has seemed that we are in the midst of one big muddle. Uncertainty seems to be the only constant. Yet as writers we have a way of dealing with this. Our writing, our characters, our books are a constant in our lives. Whatever happens, we can keep on writing. We can deal with what is happening through the pages of our books. We can also provide respite from the muddle for those who read our books. Writing is so much more than putting pen to paper. I urge each and every one of you to carry on writing, to enjoy what you do, and to be the best you can be.

I am busy on a couple of projects at the moment. I am immersed in imaginary worlds where I am in control. Where the unexpected can happen but I am able to deal with this in any way I wish. If the characters will let me of course. I am sure all writers will identify with that. So, whatever is happening in your world, enter the imaginary one and let your emotions take the form of words.

I hope you will forgive me a moment of joy and excitement in my writing world. Killer's Crew, the fifth book in the DI Shona McKenzie Mysteries will be released on 14th November. It will be available from all the usual outlets including Waterstones, Amazon, CLC (Dundee) Kobo, iBooks and Nook.

  1. You can't beat going back into your imaginary world. Why do you suppose some of us write historical stuff?
