New Year, New Page by Wendy H. Jones

As the webmaster for the Association of Christian Writers the blog on the first day of the year always falls to me. This is mainly because I do the first of every month rather than any special honour. I did, however, have the honour of writing the very first blog post, We Have Lift Off,  almost two years ago. In that post I talked about the exciting journey we would be travelling as Christian Writers. That journey is still exciting. There have been over 600 blog posts since then and I am blown away by the quality of these posts. It is evident that the members who contribute are professional and deeply committed to both their writing and to God. It is an honour to be the webmaster for the organisation and to be in a position to support other Christian Writers.

Over the last year I have met many of  these members. I have laughed with them, worked with them, learnt from them, prayed with them and been supported by them. I hope I have done the same in return. Being involved with ACW has helped me to become a better writer and given me the courage to step out and follow my dreams. From being a new writer through the journey to becoming a published writer and signing a publishing contract, ACW members have rooted for me every step of the way.

Now you may have noticed my books do not look particularly Christian and you're right. My books have been written as secular crime books but with no sex or swearing. They have been written for a crossover market. I am a Christian who is a writer. So if you're thinking ACW isn't for me. I don't write Christian books, then the reverse is true.

So why am I telling you this? Today is the first day of a brand new year. It is the first page in your writing year, a chance to turn your dreams into reality. If you want to be a writer today is the day to start. If you are an established writer this is the time to stretch yourself, to strive to be even better at what you do. It is a time to look forward to an exciting year filled with endless possibilities and opportunities. Make the most of these opportunities. Grab any that come along and make them work for you. They will lead you on a wild ride. I know from personal experience that writing is exhilarating and takes you in a lot of different directions. Go with it and see where it leads.

I wish you a blessed and happy year. My prayer is that your journey as an author will be filled with fun and you will enjoy every moment. Make every single minute of this year count.

  1. Thank you, Wendy, this is truly inspiring. I have been a writer, but never a Christian writer and I'm so looking forward to the journey.
